What is Wines of Tasmania?

Wines of Tasmania is a locally-owned business that was originally formed through a collaboration of Tasmanian wine industry families who were determined to find a new way to give wine lovers access to high-end, premium and hard-to-find wine. The catalyst for setting up the business was the COVID pandemic when the border to Tasmania was closed, travel restrictions kicked in, and the cellar door experience essentially ceased overnight. We were determined to continue sharing those stories, discovering new wines from different winemakers, regardless of whether you could travel to Tasmania, or not. We are wine industry people with a depth of knowledge and experience to know, with certainty, what wines are exceptional. This is backed by our regular blind-tasting sessions where a panel is made up of people who grow, make, and/or taste wine, for a living. Our subscribers therefore receive an expertly-curated selection of the finest Tasmanian wines, each month.

Where are you based?

We operate our online business from Launceston, Tasmania. The traditional name for the land on which Launceston is built is kanamaluka. Launceston is in the north of Tasmania, approximately three hours drive from Hobart.

What’s so great about Tasmanian wine?

Tasmania, Australia’s only island state, has a unique cool climate providing perfect growing conditions for wine varieties including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Tasmanian Sparkling wine is world-renowned, rivaling Champagne in France, to produce some of the world’s most award-winning sparkling wines. Other popular varieties grown in Tasmania include Gamay, Syrah (Shiraz), Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Tasmania’s climate is like no other when compared to the rest of Australia. Winemakers contend with bitter frosts and extreme heat, all of which produces grapes with intense, concentrated flavours and a distinct sense of place. Another interesting fact is that Tasmania produces just 0.9% of Australia's total wine grape production, but 4.0% of total value.

Where does the wine come from?

The wines chosen for our wine boxes are from Tasmania’s finest family-owned wine producers who own, grow and make wine locally in Tasmania. We are dedicated to supporting smaller boutique wine brands who strive to make the finest quality wine from across Tasmania’s diverse sub-wine regions. Of course, there are other brands that make exceptional Tasmanian wine (and we love those too!) but as a small business, we want to ensure that our Tasmanian family producers directly benefit from our efforts. Buying from us helps keep the local business ecosystem ticking along which is vital to the Tasmanian economy.

Subscriptions

How does it work?

Depending on what subscription you’ve chosen (Red, White, Sparkling, Mixed, Select Six), and how often you want it (bi-monthly, quarterly, twice yearly), you will receive a beautifully packaged box of Tasmania’s most exceptional and sought-after wines. Each month we curate a new selection of wines that have been sourced from the best boutique wine producers in Tasmania. If you’re not scheduled to receive a box that month, you will have to wait till your monthly cycle rolls around to receive the latest selection. No lock in contracts - if you want a break or want to cancel, you can do this at any time.

When do I get my wine?

When you subscribe, your first wine box will be dispatched within 48 hours.  Your subscription cycle will happen on the same date you signed up. Depending on when you’re charged, you can expect it to arrive within approximately 6-8 working days, unless you’re in a regional area, which can take up to 10-12 working days.

Delivery times can sometimes change without notice. We understand the inconvenience this causes but have good systems in place to track where your box may be. Should you have concerns about the delivery status of your box please contact us in the first instance.

Please keep this in mind as you enter your address for where you’ll be to sign for your delivery in week, to a fortnight’s time. If you need to change your address temporarily, just send us an email with the details.

How do I know what wine I am getting?

Around the start of each bi-month (Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept, Nov), our shop is updated to reflect the new selections that have landed. We also share the new selections via our monthly email and on our social channels. All existing subscribers will get the new selection and new subscribers or gift buyers can purchase it too, unless stock runs out. We will indicate on the website if the selection has run out for the month.

Can I buy it as a gift, or one-off?

Yes, both our Gift boxes and Subscription Boxes (pending stock availability that month) are available to buy as a one-off purchase. Our existing subscribers are otherwise guaranteed to get that month’s selection.

Should you wish to purchase several boxes, to multiple addresses, please email hello@winesoftasmania.com.au.

Refunds

What is your refund/returns policy?

Wines of Tasmania is all about introducing fine wine lovers to Tasmania’s best boutique wines. All of our wines are carefully chosen through a blind-taste by a panel of wine industry experts. As the majority of the wines are under stelvin cap, they are not at risk of being cork tainted. Should you discover that a wine we’ve sent is not up to your expectations, please let us know. We want you to be tasting Tasmania’s finest wines so will provide a credit, refund, or add a replacement bottle of equivalent value in your next subscription box.

My Account

Can I skip or pause my subscription?

Yes, you absolutely can. Just email hello@winesoftasmania.com.au a few days before your box is due to transact and request a pause on your subscription. We can pause your account for up to six months.

How do I update my information?

You can update your contact details, address, or payment information by logging into your account. If you do update your shipping address, especially if it’s around the beginning of the month, please email hello@winesoftasmania.com.au with your updated address, so we can be assured your next delivery goes to the correct address.

Can I increase or decrease the frequency of my subscription?

Yes, email hello@winesoftasmania.com.au with your required changes.

Can I change my subscription to a different box?

Sure, but as your new box may be priced differently, you may need to cancel your existing subscription and re-subscribe to the new selection. Please reach out to us if you would like to make a change and we can recommend the best approach.

How do I cancel my subscription?

We understand, circumstances change. But just before you do cancel, remember you can always pause, skip or change the frequency and by doing this still keep your exclusive access to our monthly selections. Otherwise, to cancel, simply login to your account and follow the cancellation prompts. There are no fees or charges to cancel, and you can cancel at any time.

Exclusive Selections

How do you blind-taste the wines? Who are these expert judges?

In fact, all our blind-tasters can see (#dadjoke) but when they are tasting the wines, they don’t actually know where it’s from. This is to ensure neutrality and to help with recording tasting notes. The panel of judges comprises no less than four people and usually includes senior winemakers, sommeliers, and experienced wine connoisseurs.

What happens if you run out of a particular wine?

Our monthly subscribers are guaranteed to get the wines we promote on the site. For any new subscribers, if our monthly selection has run out of a particular wine (which may happen from time to time due to the rarity of some wines), we will make sure that is reflected on the website and what alternative is now included.

What do I do with the QR code on the bottle?

You can scan the QR code using your phone camera or QR code reader app and it’ll take you to our website where you can find more information about the wines, where they came from and other relevant information that is regularly updated.

How can I get in touch?
